Teaching Scared Me—Until I Learned This

👋🏻 Hi friends,

One thing I’ve realized about myself lately is that I immensely enjoy teaching and training other journalists and writers.

And the funny thing?

I never thought I would.

For the longest time, the idea of teaching intimidated me—I assumed it wasn’t for me. I was too much of a person who enjoyed being behind the computer rather than educating people.

Recently, I completed a training session on pitching for Ukrainian journalists, which was incredibly rewarding.

The feedback from both the organizers and participants was wonderful, and it made me reflect on how I overcame my initial fear of teaching.

A simple mindset shift made all the difference. A trainer from Maven once told me:

“Don’t think about teaching as teaching—think of it as sharing.”

That single word changed everything. I’ve always loved sharing—whether it’s ideas, insights, or resources—so reframing it this way completely transformed how I approached it.

It’s fascinating how the brain works—how a small shift in perspective can unlock something you once thought was out of reach.

Have you ever experienced a situation where a simple reframe altered your perspective on something?

I’d love to hear about it.

In other news, I'm running live writing sprints as part of my writing accountability program.

No matter how long I’ve been published—since the mid-'90s, in fact—seeing my name in print still makes my heart flutter. I’m thrilled to have a piece published in Bethesda Magazine, a prestigious local publication in the DC area.

✍🏻 Content Creation

In the past few weeks, I have published several pieces of content; here are some highlights:

  • A feature article in Bethesda Magazine on how local nutritionists feed their kids (Page 182).
